Positive About Emmy
[Current Mood |blankblank]

As you all may or may not know she has a myspace with a few of her songs on it. I think the myspace is real. I mean it has to be. Anyway here's the address.

So what do you think of the songs? Personally, I don't like them at all. They sound too..too..digital may be the way to describe it. I was hoping for something a little more real. That may make no sense at all, but hopefully some of you'll know what I mean.

So lets hear your opinions.

I do know what you mean. Have you downloaded the documentary that's available with the EP on iTunes? She explains why they chose this form for the album here. Actually very little is "digital". The effect is created using multiple tracks of Emmy's vocals played at different speeds and mixed.
Her producer Stuart Brawley explains it far better than me in his blog
But there will be tracks with solitary vocals as well according to him and Emmy in a few interviews

Anyway my reaction was similar to your initally but I bought the EP on iTunes out of curiousity and it's grown on me. I don't like "Slow Me Down"- I think it's rather repetitive- after listening to the clip on the myspace you don't really need to hear the whole song. "Falling" which isn't on the myspace is one I sort of like now though I didn't at first. It's a bit more pop"y" than I usually like- there's sort of a techno dance beat, but Emmy uses her range a bit more than on the other songs on the EP. "Stay" is my personal favorite of the 3 that were released. I like the impressionistic images the lyrics create, and I think it's more reminicient of Sarah McLaughlin (an artist I love) than anyone else. The documentary was good because I think that regardless of your personal taste in music (and that varies obviously) you can see that Emmy did put a lot of thought into this album which I definately respect.

However I don't understand why these 3 songs were released on the EP. In the documentary we hear her speak about some other songs and we hear clips, and I personally thought that the title song "Inside Out" sounded better than "Slow Me Down" or "Falling".

I still don't really like the sound of the songs. I respect the fact though that she put a lot of work into it too. Hopefully I'll like some of the other songs more. That's one of the great things about itunes, being able to buy one song instead of the entire CD.

She's going to do a live performance on rehersals.com in a few weeks according to her blog and she'll sing the 3 songs from her EP plus two new ones: "The Great Divide" and "Inside Out" so I look foreward to hearing those.

I like that about iTunes too. Generally if I want a whole album I'll go out and by a CD but if I only really like one song I'll download it from iTunes

Inside Out

Emmy has a brilliant CD coming, and what she has released in My Space is just wonderful. She has a great voice and she wrote all the music and lyrics. It is a beautiful package. It is ranking in the top 15 and one song is number 3.
